Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis)
Type: Herb
Latin Name: Radix Sophorae Flavescentis
Chinese Name: Ku Shen
Ku Shen, also known as the light-yellow sophora root, is a type of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that is commonly used to treat skin issues and oedema.
In TCM theory, Ku Shen clears inflammatory and infectious conditions caused by heat.
Firstly, Ku Shen works to drive internal heat out of the body through urination or bowel movements. This can ease internal skin problems such as jaundice, leukorrhagia, eczema, sores, as well as other issues such as difficulty urinating, urinary tract infections, damp and swollen scrotum, bleeding hemorrhoids and oedema.
Secondly, Ku Shen can also be applied topically to relieve external skin problems such as scabies, itchiness, trichomonas vaginal itching and leukorrhagia caused by parasites.
