Type: Herb
Latin Name: Radix Scrophulariae
Chinese Name: Xuan Shen
Xuan Shen, also known as the figwort root, is a type of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that is commonly used to improve stomach and airway health.
In TCM theory, Xuan Shen cools the blood, and clear heat and toxins.
Firstly, Xuan Shen works to cool the blood, helping to alleviate fever conditions with constipation, lower blood pressure levels and reduce fever, night sweats, purplish tongue and hemoptysis.
Secondly, Xuan Shen reduces heatiness from the lungs caused by a change of weather, which typically manifests as cough, throat dryness, sore throat, hoarseness and a dry mouth.
Lastly, Xuan Shen fights inflammation and relieves swelling in the body (e.g. goiter, scrofula).
