Biotin is one of the B vitamins that helps in converting food consumed into energy. As it supports the production of keratin, a protein that promote strong hair and nails, biotin is often present in hair and beauty products.
Common food sources include egg yolk, organ meats (e.g. liver, kidney) and nuts. Although uncommon, people with imbalanced diet or on certain medications may have biotin deficiency, which present symptoms such as dry, scaly skin, brittle hair, hair loss, dry eyes, insomnia etc.
